I have so many fond memories of Danny Kyle I don't know where to begin! I first met Danny when I was 15 years old and I was going through a bad time in my short life at that point. I was invited to live with Danny & Helen and stayed at his house for about a year on and off. They made me feel very welcome and through him I met a lot of people who left a lasting memory with me. I remember Danny introducing me to my first curry at the Raja Indian Back Sneddon Street Paisley; we had just finished an open mike at the "Silver Thread Hotel" which Danny organized every Sunday. We were joined by Hamish Imlach and boy did he eat the hottest curry's phew I'm sweating just thinking of it! There are many fond memories like the time Danny recorded his first album in the Paisley town hall and at the end of the night it was back to the house for a party... We run out of cigarettes and Danny said that there was a cigarette machine outside Burtons in Paisley so we jumped into this car that Billy Connelly had (can’t remember the name of it but they were known as the ugly ducklings) We arrived at the machine and the dam thing was broken! Back at the house Danny produced this Glue Pen and suggested we get all the cigarette ends from the fire place and ashtrays and empty them into this huge cigarette paper he produced and then he glued it together to keep the tobacco from falling out. Well this was the biggest rollup I have ever seen to this day and it was passed round us all so that we all got a smoke from it…… I went too many a concert with Danny and he was always well received no matter where he went, one night he opened his piece looking up to the ceiling and said in a loud voice “Dad if your listening this song is for you” I thought to myself my god his dad must have died and he hasn’t told me and then looking at the audience he said” he’s not dead he’s just stripping the lead off the roof!” That was Danny a very funny man and song writer and the song he always sang that I loved was Hobo’s Lullaby although he never wrote it he sang it very well indeed. Will be visiting this site often and adding more from time to time Thank you…. Tommy Higgins.
