He was one of the best known and best loved persons on the folk music scene. He was involved in virtually every good folk festival in Scotland, people chose there festivals just by his name.... He was born in Paisley in 1939 and he was brought up in a 2 bed tenement in McKerrell with his 3 sisters, Ann, Jess and Margaret. Later on in his childhood the family moved to Renfrew road, where he lived for the rest of his life and had and brought up his own children in the same house...He went to St Mirren Academy High school where he met long term friends John Byrne and Davie Spiers
