When he was 15 he left school and went to work at Babcocks in Renfrew as an apprentice engineer. When he was about 18 and he had finished his apprentiship he decided it wasn't for him and really wanted to become a comedian/folksinger, much to his mothers dissapproval. Going by the amount of friends and adulation he had over the years before and since his death, everyone thinks it was the right decision and i think if his mother was here she would have been very proud of his success...
